What We Need:
Environmental Specialist 2
What We Do:
At the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws.
Job DescriptionWhat We Need YOU To Do:
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Surface Water (DSW) at our Central Office in downtown Columbus, Ohio.
For us, clean water is top priority:
We seek a driven individual with the skillset and background to ensure Ohio’s waterways are protected by monitoring municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities. You’ll accomplish this by reviewing facility installation applications, flow analysis, and design plans to ensure they are following engineering best practices and meeting state and federal regulations. You’ll draft National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits for facilities that include appropriate effluent limitations and monitoring requirements.
To verify facilities are running properly, you’ll assess their required operation and maintenance reports and inspect sites to verify permit compliance. As needed, you’ll coordinate collection of discharge samples and data related to plant performance. You’ll respond to and investigate public complaints of violations and issue enforcement actions as necessary to address identified violations and non‑compliance issues. As a subject matter expert, you will advise public officials, industry representatives, consultants, and the public on federal and state regulations and requirements for wastewater treatment facilities.
Let’s filter out the important elements.
- Review installation applications and engineering plans for wastewater treatment systems.
- Prepare NPDES permits for municipal, industrial, and semi‑public wastewater treatment plants and inspect plants for permit compliance.
- Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints of non‑compliance activities.
- Provide engineering technical assistance to local governments, consultants, and the public on environmental regulations.
Do you have the skills and commitment to help ensure Ohio’s waterways are protected? Then apply today!
