Position Overview

Open-rank tenure track position applicants for Clinician Investigators and PhD Researchers to join the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) and our large community of research faculty members as we continue to expand our team!

Department Highlights

The Department of Internal Medicine (DOIM) is the largest department  2016, the DOIM had 31,000 hospital discharges and 614,000 outpatient encounters. The department has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report in multiple areas.

Duties and Responsibilities

Persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university and who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty member’s tenure initiation unit (TIU) and, as appropriate, regional campus;

obligations will include research, service and/or teaching or clinical practice. These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.

Faculty Types
  • Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) – Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a doctor of medicine (MD), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research.
  • Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) – Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure‑track faculty with MD or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.
  • Research Faculty (regardless of rank) – Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
Requirements
  • Clinician Investigators will have an MD or DO;
    Completion of Internal Medicine or IM-Peds Residency from an ACGME accredited program; and be board‑certified/eligible in Internal Medicine. Fellowship training and/or a track record of independent funding is required.
  • PhD Researchers will have a PhD in health services research, epidemiology, or a related field; and at least three years of collaborative research experience in a post‑doctoral fellow and/or faculty position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a primary care research fellowship, health services research fellowship, clinical scholars program, or similar is preferred.
  • Ideal candidates would have an established record of publishing their research and obtaining funding, outstanding clinical and interpersonal skills, affinity for mentoring others, capacity to build and maintain productive collaborations, and ability to build and sustain an independent program of research.
