JOB SUMMARY

The Summer Camp Assistant is responsible for supporting the Camp and Scout Educator in executing the Summer Camp program. Duties include, but are not limited to, organizing and preparing supplies for activities, communicating with camp families, documenting camp incidents, and assisting camp counselors with activities as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Organize and maintain all camp equipment, supplies, and campareas, focusing on the Pre‑K half‑day camps.
  • Communicate in a professional manner with camp families through emails, phone calls, and in‑person conversations.
  • Assist in documentation of all accidents, injuries, incidents, complaints, and problems.
  • Assist in implementing and enforcing camp policies and procedures.
  • Assist in leading and guiding camp counselors through camp policies, procedures, and administrative tasks.
  • Assist as a support system for campers with intellectual and developmental disabilities by de‑escalating overstimulating situations.
  • Lead before or after camp care.
  • Substitute for camp counselors as needed in the occasion of an absence.
  • Serve as a role model and maintain the health, safety, and welfare of children and camp counselors.
  • Demonstrate a focus on serving the campers and guests of the Conservatory, maintaining the highest standards of customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D required; completion of at least 1 year towards an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Natural Resources, Environmental or other Sciences, Fine Arts, or similar field preferred.
  • Experience working with preschool age children (ages 3‑5) is highly preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with children or adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in the techniques of informal learning and a keen interest in sharing knowledge with visitors.
  • 6 months of related work experience preferred, including informal education, customer service, and/or administrative work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Effective written & verbal communication skills with the ability to give
  • precise information when communicating with camp families and assist in presentations
  • to children as needed.
  • Proficient in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Proficient organizational skills
  • Child First Aid/CPR is required before beginning of camp.
  • A professional demeanor and highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and meet timelines.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and remain on an exact schedule of events.
  • Ability to deliver educational content that follows written lessons and departmental goals as needed.
  • Ability to move about for up to 5 miles/day and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds with or without accommodations.
  • Ability to pass a background check and fingerprinting.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to provide reliable transportation.
