- Valid Ohio certification/licensure as a librarian/media specialist
- Alternatives to the above qualifications, as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
- Ability and willingness to work with and make modifications for special needs students
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to operate and maintain library equipment
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Effective, active listening skills
- Knowledge of general and specialized reference materials
- Knowledge of library science and applications
- Organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ensure the safety of students
- Plan and implement activities to complement classroom teaching and the curriculum
- Develop policies and procedures for the library/media center that correspond with the environment and expectations of the school
- Maintain library/media center statistics and records, and provide usage reports as needed
- Organize facilities to meet the needs of the patrons
- Train, coordinate, and direct the tasks of the media center clerk(s) and/or secretary assigned to the library/media center
- Recruit, organize, and train any volunteers needed to keep the library/media center functioning smoothly
- Select, evaluate, and maintain materials and equipment to meet the needs of the curriculum
- Provide library/media skills instruction and literature appreciation to the students as indicated in the adopted Library Media Curriculum Guide
- Help teachers plan and implement activities where students and teachers need to use the library/media center
- Acquaint the school community with the proper use of the library/media center by providing orientation programs, school newsletters, and/or fliers to help new users
- Provide individual instruction as needed
- Develop and manage the approved library center budget and associated programs
- Promote library/media center materials, programs, and services
- Cooperate with the public library whenever possible
- Encourage community involvement in the library/media program through the use of volunteers in daily library/media center activities and/or special events
- Attend meetings and in-services as required
- Maintain overall supervision of the system for classifying and cataloging all media in the district's media learning centers
- Maintain the proper order of the media center collection
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
- Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, and parents
- Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
- Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships
- Attend professional growth seminars, workshops, etc., to keep current on relevant issues
- Counsel, advise, encourage, and motivate students
- Interact with other departments and school personnel when necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal
