POSITION GOAL:The PK-12 School Counselor is responsible for delivering a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes and enhances student success. This includes academic achievement, career development, and personal/social growth. The counselor collaborates with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a supportive environment that addresses the needs of all students.
TERMS OF184 teacher contract days plus extended time as needed
EVALUATION:Will follow established district procedures
PERFORMANCE CRITERIA:1.
Program Management and Evaluation:
- Program Development:
Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the school and district mission/vision and state and national standards. - Data Collection and Analysis:
Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of the counseling program and make improvements. - Professional Development:
Stay current with educational and counseling trends through ongoing professional development.
2.
Academic Support:
- Individual Student Planning:
Assist students in setting academic goals and developing a plan to achieve them. - Classroom Guidance:
Deliver curriculum on topics such as study skills, time management, and test‑taking strategies. - Academic Advising:
Provide guidance on course selection, graduation requirements, and post‑secondary planning.
3.
Personal/Social Development:
- Counseling Services:
Offer individual and group counseling to address personal, social, and emotional issues. - Crisis Intervention:
Respond to and provide support during student crises, including collaboration with outside agencies. - Conflict Resolution:
Mediate conflicts between students and help them develop problem‑solving skills.
4.
Collaboration and Consultation:
- Parent and Teacher
Collaboration:
Work with parents and teachers to address student needs and improve student outcomes. - School Staff
Collaboration:
Collaborate with school staff to create a safe and inclusive school environment. - Community Resources:
Connect students and families with community resources for additional support. - Coordinate 504 services, including identification of students, program planning and evaluation, facilitation of communication between home and school
- Attend and participate in IEP meetings as needed
- Attend and participate in MTSS meetings
5.
Career Development as appropriate:
- Career Counseling:
Guide students in exploring career interests and options, including college and vocational paths. - Career
Education:
Provide information on career resources, labor market trends, and job‑search techniques.
6.
State and District Testing Support:
- Assist the District Testing Coordinator in the coordination and organization of all testing
- Assist the District Testing Coordinator in setting schedules and oversee all state and district testing
7.
