Position: State Support Team (SST) 11 Instructional Improvement Consultant

State Support Team - Region 11 seeks a full‑time team member who will coach district personnel towards effective approaches for continuous improvement, including implementation and monitoring of evidence‑based instructional practices.

SST Consultant provides support to districts and schools to meet state and federal requirements, facilitate and support a comprehensive needs assessment (Ohio's One Needs Assessment) to determine root cause, support research efforts through the use of Ohio's evidence‑based clearing house or other clearing house, facilitate districts' development of one focused, coherent plan (Ohio's One Plan) and provide implementation support and monitoring of implementation through the system structure of the Ohio Improvement Process.

Position Duties (but are not limited to)
  • Provide job‑embedded coaching, professional development, and technical assistance to district/building/teacher teams on the implementation/monitoring of improvement efforts;
  • Support school districts, buildings, and community schools in the analysis of local data to identify critical needs through the One Needs Assessment, and in the development of continuous improvement strategies and action steps through the One Plan using ODEW's ED STEPS application;
  • Provide professional development, coaching, and technical assistance on topics including instructional leadership, research‑based instructional strategies, specially designed instruction for students with disabilities, language and literacy development or high‑quality math instruction, and other topics related to closing achievement gaps;
  • Collect and document evidence of implementation and impact of work with districts and buildings according to processes outlined by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, and
  • Assist in documenting the work of the State Support Team and analyzing district/regional data to determine ongoing support needs.
Qualifications
  • A master's degree in the area for which an employee has primary responsibility (i.e., education, special education, early childhood education, education administration or an appropriate related field or evidence of equivalency).
  • Three to five years of classroom teaching, instructional improvement planning and implementation, special education administration, school counseling, school social work or related experience and a license appropriate to the individual's profession (special education administration, general education, intervention specialist, early learning (age 3 to grade
    3) or related services).
  • Expertise and/or significant leadership experience in several of the following areas:
  • Data analysis, including data‑based decision making and a thorough understanding of Ohio's accountability system.
  • Evidence‑based processes and instructional practices, including development and implementation of academic and behavior supports.
  • Knowledge of IDEA and Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
  • Effective evidence‑based processes and instructional practices, including development and implementation of academic and behavior supports and Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with strong skills in the above areas and who are also experienced in systems‑level support for special education, including specially designed instruction and provision of free appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment.
  • Valid Ohio teaching license and/or administrative license.
  • Experience as administrator at district or building level.
  • Experience developing and providing professional development, coaching, and technical assistance for adult learners.
  • Candidates will exhibit strong skills, knowledge, and expertise in planning processes, including use of strategic problem‑solving; effective coaching and consultation skills in a school or district setting; implementation and improvement monitoring strategies; delivery of high‑quality professional learning and technical assistance; performs other specific job‑related duties as directed by the SST Director.
