Position Type:
Certified, Administrative Contract, Grade 50, 260-Day Annual Contract

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree with graduate work beyond the degree
  • Valid State of Ohio license for School Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Administrator
  • Demonstrated administrative leadership at the building level
  • Demonstrated skill in district and building operations and service
  • Demonstrated skill in supervision and evaluation
  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication
Overall Duties

The Assistant Superintendent, Academics is responsible for the development and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment including special programs such as special education, gifted education, English language learners, federal programs and grants. This position reports to the superintendent.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works with district administrators, coordinators, principals, and building staff to build vision, set priorities, and develop long- and short-range goals and action plans for the leadership and improvement of the school district.
  • Supervises the performance and serves as the primary evaluator of the Director of Teaching & Learning, Director of Special Education, Director of School Community Engagement, Coordinator of Gifted Services, Coordinator of Behavior and Mental Health, Coordinator of English Language Learners.
  • Provides primary leadership, oversight, and support for preK-12 education.
  • Provides leadership in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the district and building improvement plans.
  • Provides primary oversight for administrator professional development including the entry-year program for administrators.
  • Plans and facilitates regular meetings of the Department of Academic Achievement and Professional Development.
  • Assists the Superintendent, Directors in the development and monitoring of building and department budgets and manages expenditures as requested.
  • Enhances communication, connectedness, and creativity among the Department of Teaching and Learning, Department of People Operations, Department of Technology, and the Assistant Superintendent.
  • Provides leadership to facilitate implementation of district and building goals.
  • Attends all leadership meetings as directed by the Superintendent.
  • Leads the Curriculum Liaison Committee, Board Academics Committee and serves as PTA Council liaison.
  • Participates as needed and/or requested in the selection and orientation of district level administrators and principals.
  • Troubleshoots unanticipated problems related to the academic achievement and growth of the school district.
  • Communicates and provides direction and support for district level administrators and principals to ensure quality performance at all levels.
  • Promotes culturally responsive teaching and promotes a culture that embraces diversity and expands the attitudes and values of our school community toward this end.
  • Supports the review, revision, and implementation of the administrator evaluation process.
  • Serves as a community liaison regarding changes and practices in teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Ensures administrators understand and support staff in attainment of effective student growth and achievement.
  • Collaborates with the Director of People Operations, Director of Business Services, and principals to define personnel needs for buildings and departments.
  • Supports all departments through training and resource allocation.
  • Serves as a designated Title IX Coordinator.
  • Provides updates on student achievement to the Board of Education.
  • Works collaboratively with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent and Executive Directors on the goals, action plans, structure, and function of leadership meetings and development.
  • Seeks outside resources and recognitions for the school district.
  • Ensures that the academic programs are in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements and reflect the best thinking and practices of educators and professionals in their respective fields.
  • Works with the Directors of the Department of Teaching & Learning to lead, facilitate, and supervise the PreK-12 academic program.
  • Establishes and models expectations for professionalism, compliance with district policy and procedures, and continuous learning and development.
  • Provides leadership and support for positive conflict resolution for schools, parents, students, and staff.
  • Keeps current and understands implications of legislative changes that impact the academic programs of the district. Communicates changes with all stakeholders, including the greater community.
