Position: Open-Rank Tenure-Track Faculty of Anesthesiology

Overview

The Department of Anesthesiology at Wexner Medical Center/The Ohio State University College of Medicine is initiating a search for one or more Tenure Track faculty positions in Basic, Translational and/or Clinical Research in perioperative health care. Qualified candidates may apply for Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in areas focused on perioperative care and anesthesiology, with subspecialty emphasis on Neuroscience, Pain and Addiction.

Applications in other areas may be considered if they complement ongoing research activities. Target investigations include, but are not limited to, neuromodulation, neuroimmune regulation, neuroinflammation and reactive glia, in the context of perioperative neural dysfunction, neuroprotection, pain signaling and analgesia, recovery and wound healing, or addiction research. Candidates focused on Women’s Health in these areas are encouraged to apply. We welcome PhD or Physician scientists.

Successful applicants will join a growing research environment dedicated to translating laboratory discoveries into human studies and clinical trials, with a long-term goal to improve patients’ lives. Ongoing and new funding and collaborations across NIH, PCORI, FDA and other sources support research in postoperative ileus, delirium, pain management, neuromodulation, and related perioperative topics. Our department maintains strong clinical and translational research programs with extensive infrastructure and opportunities for team science and interdepartmental collaboration.

Position Overview

We are recruiting for tenure track faculty in Basic, Translational and/or Clinical Research in perioperative health care within Anesthesiology. Opportunities exist at the Assistant, Associate or Professor levels, with a focus on research aligned to perioperative care and anesthesiology across related subfields. The department seeks investigators with a track record of NIH or equivalent funding, as well as potential for independent, externally funded research programs and collaborations across disciplines.

Areas of investigation may include neuromodulation, neuroimmune regulation, neuroinflammation, neuroprotection, pain signaling and analgesia, recovery and wound healing, and addiction research. The department emphasizes team science and collaboration with clinicians and basic scientists, and values a track record of productive scholarship and potential for tenure and distinguished faculty status.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree, post‑doctoral training, a commitment to basic, translational and/or clinical research, and a history of strong research productivity in strategic target areas of investigation.
  • A track record or strong potential for NIH (or equivalent) funding; significant funding from other sources will be considered.
  • Value placed on team science and development of extramurally funded collaborations with physicians and basic scientists, including opportunities for training grants and program project grants in the future.
  • Interest in applying artificial intelligence, machine learning, bioinformatics and computational models to perioperative medicine in targeted areas, with NIH or equivalent funding.
  • Motivated, ambitious early‑stage investigators who can establish an independent research program and secure NIH (or equivalent) funding.
  • Commitment to professional, ethical conduct and the potential to attain tenure with a distinguished faculty record in the department.
  • Salary commensurate with training and experience.
  • Preference given to tenure‑track candidates at the Assistant Professor level who have demonstrated high productivity, notable publications, and potential for success on the tenure track, including evidence of career development awards or equivalent competitive funding.
  • Interest in leadership roles in emerging areas of investigation with growth potential and collaboration opportunities.
