Intervention Specialist
Reports to: Building Principal and Superintendent's Designee
Status: 1/5/2026 - 5/29/2026 (ONE YEAR ONLY)
Location: Upper Arlington City Schools
Licensure: K-12; IS Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Intensive
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Description: Provide academic, functional, behavioral, and instructional support for special education students by designing and implementing individualized programming.
NOTE: The lists below are not ranked in order of importance
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or university
- Valid Ohio Special Education Teaching Certificate/License
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Knowledge of the Operating Standards for Ohio’s Schools Serving Children with Disabilities
- Knowledge of FERPA and HIPAA
- Knowledge of Ohio’s Academic Content Standard
- Knowledge of IEP development
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
- Effective, active listening skills
- Organizational and problem‑solving skills
- Demonstrated a positive work ethic
- Attend work regularly and punctually
- Basic computer skills
- Student management skills
- Work cooperatively with others in small groups
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations
- Ensure the safety of students
- Assist in providing staff development activities related to the modification and adaptation of curriculum and instruction
- Communicate regularly with parents and professional staff regarding the educational, social, and personal needs of the student
- Serve as a building resource person to identify and provide instructional materials and strategies that diagnose and respond to individual student competencies and needs
- Assist the special education student in making an assessment of his/her abilities and in establishing educational and vocational occupational goals in keeping with these abilities
- Serve as a member of the building intervention assistance teams
- Provide support for the case managers of students referred to intervention assistance teams, including observations of students
- Assist in reviewing the implementation of 504 Plans and IEPs
- Provide modeling of specific teaching strategies for the classroom teacher
- Provide additional support for classroom teachers through information on research, changes in the law, and speakers on relevant topics
- Occasional interaction among unruly children
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 25 pounds (e.g., paper boxes, deliveries of supplies and equipment)
- Occasional travel, e.g., attending a workshop outside of the district
- Frequently move and position oneself as necessary to access and operate equipment
- Frequently move around the workspace and travel throughout the school building
