Overview
Job Title: Instructional Assistant – General and Title I
Salary: $20.04 Hourly
Job Type: Full-Time, Part-Time & Substitute
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Department: School Based Support
Reports To: School Principal or Department Supervisor
Responsibilities- Assists the building administrator and teacher in the supervision of students and general building duties. Works cooperatively with staff members to develop and implement effective educational programs and to deliver appropriate services to students.

- An Instructional Assistant assists teachers and administrators to facilitate positive academic and behavioral growth for student s well-being of the children.
- Assists teachers and administrators in maintaining and restoring order and discipline in the school building and on grounds.
- Restrains and/or transports disturbed students, when necessary, using non-offensive verbal and/or physical mediation skills.
- Assists in supervising student behavior throughout the school day.
- Assists teachers in maintain or restoring order in the classroom when needed.
- Monitors quiet/isolation rooms and/or time out areas.
- Assists in the supervision of student behavior in hallways, lunchrooms and on the playground.
- Assists children with special needs in their relationship with the typically developing children.
- Assists children in developing skills of independence in all areas of self-help such as toilet training, preparing, serving, and eating snacks; tidying the classroom materials, dressing, grooming, and preparing materials to go home.
- Assists in the preparation of classroom materials.
- Accompanies individuals or small groups of children to other locations in the building.
Note: Title I positions are contingent upon grant funding.
Title I Duties/Responsibilities- An Instructional Assistant (Title I) under the guidance of the school staff, works with identified students in areas of reading and/or math.
- Assists classroom teachers in devising strategies for reinforcing material and skills covered in the daily 90 minutes reading block in elementary school;
Elementary and math classes/blocks, or regular classroom instruction in middle schools. - Assists with small student groups after regular classroom instruction by the teacher.
- Listens to children as they read fiction or nonfiction.
- Maintains academic progress records on students.
- Alerts the teacher to special needs or relevant information concerning the student being served.
- Must have an Associate's degree (or higher) from an accredited institution of higher learning. OR
- Have at least 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Pass the Ohio Department of Education approved Parapro examination administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) or by the Ohio State University (OSU), and possess a high school diploma or GED recognized by the Ohio Department of Education. To take the Parapro exam, contact ETS or . The test is $55.
