Salary: $20.46 Hourly

Position SummaryAn Instructional Assistant English Language Learners (ELL) assists ELL teachers in reviewing and reinforcing lessons to students; performs related duties as requested. We currently have a strong need for Spanish and Portuguese aides!
Responsibilities- Implements programs of study
- Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning.
- Utilizes instructional management systems models that increase student learning.
- Monitors student progress toward mastery of instructional goals and objectives.
- Communicates effectively within the educational community and with parents on a regular basis.
- Meets professional responsibilities.
- Demonstrates competency in the knowledge and implementation of technology standards.
- Provides curricula required by the City School district.
- Bases instruction on adopted curricula for the school.
- Demonstrates accurate and current knowledge in subject field.
- Employs a variety of instructional strategies to augment achievement.
- Uses content scope and sequence in planning.
- Provides an atmosphere conducive to learning consistent with the school mission.
- Follows established discipline procedures.
- Establishes procedures and rules that enhance learning.
- Encourages student attendance.
- Sets high positive expectations for student performance.
- Encourages and acknowledges individual student accomplishments and appropriate behavior.
- Creates and maintains an environment that supports learning and accommodates individual learning differences.
- Communicates with parents and provides feedback on student work.
- Organizes teaching strategies to maximize allocated instructional time to increase student learning.
- Prepares and implements lesson plans to teach instructional objectives.
- Follows grading policies and regulations and maintains accurate and complete students records.
- Follows confidentiality procedures regarding students, parents/guardians, and fellow staff members.
- Adheres to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations.
- Performs assigned duties and is punctual with reports, grades, records and reporting to work.
- Conducts individual and small group tutoring sessions in reading or math.
- Keeps daily attendance on all students tutored.
- Assists NPSS tutors in the preparation of Title I instruction.
- Establishes positive rapport with the parents/guardians, students and members of the school community.
- Attends required professional development sessions.
- Alerts the classroom teacher and NPSS tutor to any needs or relevant information which best fits the individual student.
- High School Diploma/GED or Higher
- Fluency in a second language
- Relevant experience involving bilingual practices or translation.
- Possess official translated transcripts if obtained outside of United States.
- Obtain an Educational Aide Permit through the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) with ESEA endorsement (The ESEA endorsement is not needed for ESL instructional Assistants).
Skills And Abilities
- Must be bilingual and possess good communication skills (speaking, reading, translating and writing).
- Must possess a strong desire and willingness to assist teachers and administrators in serving a diverse student population.
- Must have the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, co-workers and supervisors.
- Under final consideration for employment and in accordance with Ohio Law, fingerprints and passing a criminal records check if required. By completing an application, an individual agrees to comply fully with Ohio Revised Code 109.57 and , both pre and post-employment.
- If hired must obtain an Educational Aide Permit from the Ohio Department of Education.
- Tools/Equipment Use:
Desktop PC with keyboard and mouse, laptop, scanner, calculator, software, desk, and adjustable chair. - Posture:
Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting. - Motion:
Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching - Lifting:
Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 10 pounds) - Environment:
Works in office setting; may require occasional irregular hours and/or prolonged hours. - Attendance:
Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. - Mental Demands:
Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
