Base pay range: $25.00/hr - $25.00/hr (actual pay based on skills and experience).

Job Description

Join the St. Joseph Montessori School team as a Spanish Teacher for our Upper Elementary (4th‑6th Grade) and Middle School (7th‑8th Grade) students. The Spanish Specialist will plan, program, and teach Spanish in alignment with Ohio State Standards for World Languages.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and report for all students in the class.
  • Establish a positive, encouraging relationship with students, holding them to high standards while supporting their progress.
  • Demonstrate a love of students and dedication to their success, combined with a passion for Spanish language and culture, effective professional skills, a positive, team‑centered attitude, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
  • Work with other teachers and staff as a contributing team member to create a cooperative, positive adult work environment.
  • Collaborate with staff to co‑plan, co‑deliver, and individualize instruction for all students; creatively accommodate diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs; and address instructional challenges constructively.
  • Maintain excellent subject knowledge and a sound understanding of Ohio Learning.
  • Implement instructional activities that foster a climate of active engagement and meaningful learning.
  • Provide a positive environment encouraging student participation.
  • Establish weekly objectives and units of study covering Ohio Learning Standards.
  • Facilitate activities and projects incorporating communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.
  • Use discipline models aligned with Montessori Pedagogy to maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Select and adapt instructional resources for varied student needs.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and professionals.
  • Assist in assessing curricular needs and propose plans for improvement.
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when interacting with students, parents, peers, and the community.
  • Assume responsibility for meeting course and school‑wide performance goals.
  • Demonstrate gains in student performance.
  • Participate in training and professional development.
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits (deadlines, schedules, coordination).
  • Act ethically and comply with school policies and expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • All responsibilities are subject to performance goals and/or targets established annually.
Education and Certifications
  • State of Ohio Teacher’s License (Resident Educator, 5‑year professional license, or Permanent Non‑Tax Certificate) in Spanish.
  • For holders of a 5‑year or Permanent Non‑Tax license: submit an individual professional development plan (IPDP) to the Diocesan Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC). Resident Educators gain hours through work and mentoring.
  • Willingness to complete ongoing professional development, including required safety training.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Spanish teacher (preferred).
Position Requirements
  • Ability to support and promote a team environment.
  • Enthusiasm, initiative, high energy, sense of humor, and flexibility.
  • Physical ability to work around children, including sitting on the floor, standing, crouching, and climbing stairs.
  • Can lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Enthusiasm working with children and adolescents.
  • Must complete FBI/BCI Background Check, Protecting God’s Children 3‑hour workshop, FEMA Training, CPR/First Aid Certification, Religion I course (Diocese of Columbus requirement), State of Ohio Science of Reading, and other professional development as assigned.
