The Middle School Boys Basketball Assistant Coach supports and leads various aspects of the sports program under direction of the Head Coach. Duties include supervising students during all program activities, serving as a positive role model, and representing KIPP Columbus in an equitable and excellent manner. The coach must continually upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultations, and performing all duties as directed by the Head Coach.
The Assistant Coach is required to abide by all OHSAA rules and regulations and by the character and learning environment standards of KIPP Columbus.
Key Responsibilities Coaching- Preparing and maintaining training equipment and facilities.
- Assisting with the recruitment of students for the program.
- Monitoring and evaluating team performance.
- Maintaining records of students, training sessions, games, performance statistics, and equipment.
- Facilitating and supervising training sessions and individual workouts.
- Fulfilling other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
- Building a positive team environment.
- Working with other school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives for student‑athletes.
- Monitoring and enforcing student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
- Instructing and advising students on regulations regarding academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
- Aligning with and maintaining KIPP’s learning environment standards for behavior and conduct during athletic contests, practice sessions, and off‑school trips.
- Taking all necessary precautions to protect student‑athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Accompanying and supervising student‑athletes during competitions on out‑of‑town trips.
- Encouraging sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
- Doing whatever it takes for our students and team to be successful.
- Participating in staff meetings, professional development, as appropriate.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Senior Athletics and Wellness Coordinator or Head Coach.
