Position Overview

The Assistant Dean of Simulation is appointed by the dean and has delegated administrative responsibility for overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-based education within the College of Nursing. The role is a 12‑month clinical track with an administrative effort of 50%. Responsibilities include upholding accreditation standards, managing simulation center funds, revising policies, ensuring coverage for all high‑fidelity simulation events, and leading simulation personnel.

Strategic planning, faculty development, and curriculum integration are key elements of the position. The role reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Educational Innovation.

Performance Objectives
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive simulation strategy aligned with the college’s educational goals.
  • Provide recommendations on strategic direction for simulation needs and initiatives.
  • Assist in interviewing, hiring, and evaluating simulation staff.
  • Lead the simulation team—specialists, educators, support staff—to ensure efficient, high‑quality simulation events.
  • Collaborate with academic departments to integrate simulation into curricula and align with program outcomes.
  • Oversee the simulation center budget and ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Design and develop evidence‑based simulation‑based learning experiences reflecting current best practices.
  • Work with faculty to incorporate simulation into course objectives and assessments.
  • Develop and implement evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness of simulation activities and student performance.
  • Provide training and support to faculty in using simulation for teaching and assessment.
  • Organize workshops, seminars, and other professional development opportunities related to simulation.
  • Mentor faculty in scenario development and debriefing techniques.
  • Promote and support research activities related to simulation‑based education.
  • Represent the College of Nursing in professional simulation organizations.
  • Disseminate findings through publications, presentations, and participation in professional organizations.
  • Maintain awareness of trends and advancements in simulation technology and educational methodologies.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the quality of simulation activities and resources.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies.
  • Develop and implement protocols for the maintenance and safe use of simulation equipment.
  • Support external stakeholders and events for the College of Nursing by planning and supporting events, tours, and outreach.
  • Be available for early morning, evening, or weekend events as required by seasonal activities. Remote work is not permitted.
Education and Experience Requirements

Education: Doctoral degree in nursing, medicine, health sciences, education, or a related field.

Experience: Significant experience in simulation‑based education and faculty development.

Skills: Proven leadership and management skills; strong communication and interpersonal skills; team‑orientation; collaborative ability with diverse stakeholders.

Knowledge: General nursing care, academic nursing curriculum, accreditation standards, best practices in simulation, and familiarity with simulation research and scholarship.
