Contract: 184 Day Contract
Salary: Contract, salary, and benefits per negotiated agreement.

instructional program in a learning environment that guides and
encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic
potential
Description: In the performance of his/her duties, the teacher of English
Learners is responsible for the English language development
and academic achievement of students who are
Limited English Proficient, as identified through the Ohio
English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA).
Essential Functions:
- Provide instruction to each EL student appropriate to his/her level as determined by OELPA and in accordance with Ohio’s English language proficiency standards
- Set and conduct meetings (with assistance of EL coordinator if needed) at the beginning of each year to communicate student’s goals and plan to teachers and parents.
- Monitor progress and achievement of students who are mainstreamed
- Provide assistance to classroom teachers for testing accommodations for EL students for formal and informal assessments
- Maintain data and records for each student’s individual and academic instructional program
- Update records with written progress reports at minimum each nine weeks. Communicate progress reports to parents, classroom teacher, and EL coordinator. Assign grades.
- Participates in professional development training and building/department/district meetings
- Engage in collaboration with, and provide support or resources to classroom teachers
- Follow Ohio’s EL identification and parent notification/communication procedures in accordance with MCS policy
- Provide meaningful communication with linguistically and culturally diverse families, and collaborate with community partners to enhance services and meet educational needs
- Organize and carry out Ohio’s required EL testing (OELPS, OELPA)
- Provide, support, or organize interpretation or translation services as needed
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interest, and abilities of students.
- Create and carry out lessons for the achievement of Ohio’s LEP standards in an effort to develop literacy and language skills in all students.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives to the students for all lessons, units, and projects.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional technology, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, provide progress reports as required, and communicate with parents.
- Develop a code of conduct for the learning environment which is consistent with established administrative policies, and develop rules of classroom behavior.
- Make provisions for being available to students and parents by appointment, email, or phone for education-related purposes.
- Provide speaking, writing, reading, and listening instruction for ELs.
- Communicate concerns about students to appropriate building and district personnel.
- Serve as a resource for questions about EL instruction, assessment, etc.
- Plan and supervise assignments for volunteers and student teachers, and make written evaluations as required.
- Attend building, department, and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision-making among the staff.
- May volunteer to serve on district committees, which develop curriculum and enhance instruction, committee work beyond the regular school day per board policy.
