Job Description:The Adjunct – Sociology position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, emphasizing teaching, supporting, and evaluating students. The role involves delivering instruction and monitoring teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair or other leadership members. The incumbent must exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask while engaging large groups of people with complex material.
EssentialJob Functions
- Teaches assigned courses as scheduled, overseeing the curriculum in line with departmental policies, ensuring program rigor and instruction quality.
- Considers individual differences of students to design and support appropriate learning activities. Identifies students with academic or other needs and responds with suitable resources.
- Uses technology appropriately and communicates expectations clearly to students regarding its use.
- Keeps accurate records according to departmental policies.
- Maintains attendance records, determines and submits grades timely, and communicates progress and relevant information to students throughout the semester.
- Distributes and maintains accurate syllabi incorporating departmental, college, and instructor requirements. Conducts classes punctually as per schedule.
- Employs assessment techniques to measure students’ performance against course goals and objectives.
- Participates in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson for teaching duties and professional development.
- Creates a positive classroom atmosphere encouraging active learning, student effort, collaboration, and faculty interaction.
- Uses technology to facilitate communication with students.
- Fosters a sense of community among students inside and outside the classroom.
- Refers students to appropriate support services at the College or in the community.
- Maintains a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for faculty, staff, students, and community members.
- Master's degree in Sociology or a Master's degree plus 18 semester credit hours of graduate-level Sociology.
- State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to access work sites.
- Typical office and classroom environment with moderate noise levels.
