Job DescriptionThe Adjunct – Introductory, General & Advanced Chemistry position provides quality instruction and maintains a positive learning environment in the classroom, with an emphasis on teaching, supporting, and evaluating students. The role involves delivering instruction and monitoring teaching effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chair or leadership. The incumbent must exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask while engaging large groups with complex material.
- Teaches assigned courses as scheduled, oversees curriculum in line with departmental policies, and ensures program rigor and instructional quality.
- Considers individual student differences to design appropriate learning activities and participates in identifying students with academic or other needs, utilizing resources accordingly.
- Uses technology appropriately and clearly communicates expectations regarding its use.
- Keeps accurate records, maintains attendance, submits grades timely, and provides ongoing feedback to students.
- Distributes and maintains accurate syllabi that meet departmental, college, and instructor requirements. Conducts classes punctually as scheduled.
- Employs assessment techniques to evaluate student performance against course goals.
- Participates in periodic meetings with department staff and engages in professional development activities.
- Creates a positive classroom atmosphere encouraging active, collaborative learning and interaction.
- Uses technology for communication and fosters a sense of community among students.
- Refers students to support services available at the college or community.
- Maintains a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, students, and community members.
- Master's degree or higher in Chemistry from an accredited institution.
- Experience in a teaching/learning laboratory setting.
- Must have or be able to obtain a State Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Pay rate: $55.88 per contact hour. One contact hour equals two hours of instruction. Maximum of 12 contact hours per week.
