Overview

The Ohio State University Department of Radiation Oncology at OSU Wexner Medical Center – Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Solove Institute seeks a Radiation Oncologist to function as Clinical Director. Academic rank and track are commensurate with the candidate’s record and experience.

Position Overview

The Clinical Director reports to the Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology and has oversight of all department activities, including main campus and breast center clinical services, quality of care, resource utilization, protocol and practice guideline development and review, and supervision of Residents and Fellows. The Director ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards (Joint Commission, HIPAA, OSHA, and other bodies) and promotes collaboration across clinical, research, and administrative teams.

The role represents the department in institutional and external engagements and drives initiatives to advance patient outcomes, faculty development, and program excellence.

As Physician-Clinical, the incumbent provides licensed medical care including diagnosis, treatment (including pre/post-surgical care where appropriate), case management, and clinical research. The Physician manages complex situations and must be competent in technical, clinical, and, where appropriate, surgical skills, as well as cognitive and interpersonal abilities. The Physician practices within the Medical Center’s standards and aligns with key results areas of the Medical Center.

The James Department of Radiation Oncology offers advanced, cutting-edge treatments using state-of-the-art technologies, supported by clinical, translational, and basic research and an internationally acclaimed team of physicians. The department provides leading-edge radiation therapy care within Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

The signature mission is to provide state-of-the-art, personalized care, leveraging the treatment team’s expertise, cutting-edge technologies, and ongoing clinical, translational, and basic science research.

Job Requirements

MD or DO; successful completion of an accredited residency; board certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Radiology; must possess or be eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio.

Faculty Defined

Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) – Includes titles such as assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical, and professor-clinical. They are typically not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years, with potential reappointment. Their focus is clinical care, and they may include teaching and/or research.

Tenured faculty – Includes assistant, associate, or professor with eligibility or attainment of tenure. Primary focus is research, service, and teaching; tenure-track faculty with MD or MD/PhD may also participate in clinical care.
