The position will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level, and candidates must have completed a fellowship in surgical critical care. This full-time position will cover Ohio State University Main and East Hospitals.

The position offers growth potential and a competitive salary and benefits package.

The Division concentrates efforts on clinical care, research, and education related to patients with acute surgical problems. The division delivers high-quality care to patients suffering from surgical critical illness, trauma, emergency general surgery diseases, and burns. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center on the main campus is an established Level I Trauma Center that sees approximately 2,700 trauma patients. Our University Hospital SICU has 38 beds and is staffed by intensivists, fellows, residents, and advanced practice providers.

The population includes burns, traumas, non-cardiac transplants, and surgical patients. There is an additional 12-bed oncology SICU in the James Comprehensive Cancer Hospital, staffed by intensivists and advanced practice providers. Patients admitted to the James SAICU have an active cancer diagnosis. Both SICUs engage in a multidisciplinary care model, including the provider teams, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, dietitians, case managers, and social workers.

The SICU is supported in part by a joint surgical critical care and anesthesia critical care fellowship program with six fellows. The SICU has 16 Adult Acute Care Advanced Practice Providers and three specialty pharmacists. The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center Burn Program is directed by Dr. Nicole Bernal and is one of only two American Burn Association (ABA) verified adult Burn Centers in Ohio.

The Medical Center has over 1,300 patient beds, performs over 44,000 surgeries per year, and has over 1.7 million annual outpatient visits. Established in 1914, the Ohio State Department of Surgery has a long and respected tradition of excellence in clinical care, research, and education. With Timothy M. Pawlik, MD, PhD, MPH as Chair, the Department of Surgery is composed of nine surgical specialty divisions and seven centers.
