About WBNS-TVWBNS –TV is seeking a dynamic Chief Meteorologist who can lead our weather coverage with authority, urgency, and innovation. This role reports directly to the News Director, who oversees the station’s weather playbook and its execution.
The ideal candidate is assertive in warning the community, especially during severe or inconvenient weather, and confidently declares Weather Alert Days when conditions warrant it. You must thrive in a fast-paced environment, push for continuous multi-platform weather coverage (linear, streaming, web, app, and social), and deliver weather information in modern, engaging, and impact-driven formats.
We are looking for a meteorologist who values coaching, embraces receiving feedback and provides feedback to the meteorology team, and is eager to evolve beyond traditional chronological presentation styles.
Responsibilities- Develops and executes the station’s strategic weather coverage plan while producing and delivering engaging daily weather forecasts and original weather content for the Station’s streaming platforms, websites, app, and linear broadcasts.
- Assertively warns the community about severe and inconvenient weather by declaring weather alert days and interacting with the audience on all linear and digital platforms.
- Supervises the weather team, including scheduling, while providing ongoing coaching, mentorship, and regular performance feedback.
- Assists News Director with recruiting and hiring for the weather team.
- Assists News Director and news managers to develop plans for severe weather coverage.
- Leads coordination and implementation of technological advances related to graphics.
- Participates in community outreach efforts, including live shots and station appearances as required.
- Performs other tasks as required by News Director.
- Bachelor’s degree in meteorology; AMS Certification
- Minimum 5-7 years of on-air meteorology experience
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Strong communications skills (written/verbal)
- Ability to work under pressure while meeting daily assigned deadlines
- Applicable knowledge of multiplatform news gathering tools and resources
- Fluent with social media platforms and social media management tools, including Facebook, X, Instagram, You Tube, and other relevant media platforms.
