Office of Legal & Acquisition Services
The Bureau of State Hearings (BSH) handles appeals for individuals who disagree with decisions about their public benefits. BSH serves those receiving Medicaid, SNAP, Ohio Works First, Child Care, Child Support, Adoption Assistance, and Prevention Retention.
What You’ll Do- Review and organize documents submitted by appellants and county agencies.
- Complete data entry for hearings into systems such as the Ohio Benefits Worker Tracker Portal and the Hearings and Appeals Tracking System.
- Answer phone calls and emails from appellants and provide clear information or direction based on their inquiries.
- Create the initial electronic hearing file, correctly identifying all involved parties.
- Use a personal computer and standard software applications to complete daily tasks and support bureau operations.
BSH is a fast‑paced environment with high volume work. Many tasks must be completed within strict federal time frames. Candidates must stay organized, shift priorities quickly, and handle upset or uncooperative individuals calmly and professionally.
Necessary Skills- Ability to operate a personal computer and software applications for job duties.
- Ability to respond to telephone and email inquiries from stakeholders.
- Ability to apply established rules, policies, and procedures to assigned tasks.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
- Knowledge of general office practices including keyboarding, data entry, and telephone skills.
Full‑time.
TravelOccasional travel within the state of Ohio.

Pay schedule:
State of Ohio OCSE A, Pay Range 27. Step 1 current hourly rate $21.93 per hour.
