Byrne & Jones is seeking an experienced Asphalt Milling Operator to operate milling machines that grind and remove asphalt from roadways, highways, parking lots, and other paved surfaces.
Responsibilities- Safely and effectively operate asphalt milling machines to remove the top layers of asphalt or concrete surfaces, adjusting machine settings as needed for different types of projects.
- Ensure surfaces are prepared properly for new asphalt or other surface treatments by maintaining consistent milling depth and quality.
- Regularly inspect and maintain milling machines to ensure they are in good working order, checking for wear and tear, ensuring proper fluid levels, blade conditions, and machine functionality.
- Follow all safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Work closely with project managers, foremen, and other crew members to ensure work is completed on time and according to specifications.
- Monitor the quality of the milled surface, ensuring proper depth and smoothness for the next phase of construction or paving.
- Help ensure safe traffic flow around the milling equipment by assisting with setup, flagging, or coordinating with other workers to manage lane closures and detours.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience operating asphalt milling machines or heavy equipment is highly preferred. Experience with other road construction or maintenance equipment is a plus.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Heavy equipment operator certification or similar credentials preferred.
- Ability to work in physically demanding and varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while operating machinery.
- Proficient in operating and maintaining milling machines.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to monitor milling quality.
- Good communication skills to work effectively with the crew and supervisors.
- Knowledge of construction site safety practices.
