Elford is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead estimating efforts that support new business opportunities across our core market sectors. This role is responsible for developing accurate, competitive cost estimates for negotiated, GMP, and hard‑bid projects while partnering closely with Operations, Business Development, and project teams.
You’ll play a key role in shaping pursuit strategy, mentoring estimators, and ensuring estimates reflect sound construction means, methods, and market conditions.
What You’ll Do- Lead the estimating process from conceptual budgeting through final bid submission
- Review drawings, specifications, and scope to develop accurate cost models and quantity takeoffs
- Assemble bidder lists, coordinate pre‑bid meetings, solicit subcontractor/vendor pricing, and manage bid reviews
- Prepare and deliver detailed estimates, value engineering options, and system alternatives
- Maintain and enhance estimating databases, cost histories, and pricing tools
- Reconcile estimates with owners, architects, consultants, and internal teams
- Mentor and coach Estimators and Assistant Estimators; oversee bid team performance
- Collaborate with Operations, Accounting, and Business Development throughout pursuits
- Monitor market trends, subcontractor capacity, and pricing conditions
- Ensure estimating accuracy, documentation, and compliance with company standards
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 7–10+ years of construction industry experience with strong estimating background
- Proven experience developing conceptual, GMP, and hard‑bid estimates
- Strong understanding of construction means, methods, productivity, and scheduling impacts
- Ability to lead bid efforts and influence pursuit strategy
- Experience with digital takeoff and estimating software
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Willingness to work extended hours as needed to meet bid deadlines
- Ability to travel occasionally, if required
