Job SummaryRegulatory professional with technical knowledge in rate design theory and practice within AEP’s state jurisdictions. This position supports AEP’s utility operating companies and their state retail regulatory filings, managing activities and conducting analyses. Responsibilities include supporting the Case Management team with regulatory and project management functions such as filing timelines, compliance, case litigation processes, and research on regulatory activities and outcomes within the utility industry.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Support regulatory tasks such as development, review, and filing of subject matter expert testimony; manage the discovery process; coordinate witness preparation; and respond to requests related to internal and external audits.
- Develop working knowledge of state or federal regulations, standards, codes, research concepts, and business processes relevant to assignments.
- Conduct regulatory research of peer utilities for benchmarking analyses using PUC docket searches or other tools.
- Coordinate work across multiple organizations to address complex problems or perform regulatory analysis for rate cases, tracker or rider filings, audits, compliance filings, policy matters, and other proceedings.
- Use analytical tools and data management skills to provide actionable recommendations during regulatory strategy and filing processes.
- Educate witnesses and support personnel on the regulatory process and interrelationships between cost drivers and revenue.
- Provide support for recommended negotiation strategies.
- Self-driven, task-oriented, deadline-focused, organized, adaptable, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Team player who maintains strong relationships with other departments within the Company and the Regulatory organization.
- Strong communicator who anticipates, identifies, clarifies and resolves problems, sometimes involving analysis of inadequate or conflicting data.
- Works independently, with guidance on complex matters, to prepare and present complex regulatory subjects and strategies in a clear, concise, and effective manner to management and regulatory bodies.
- Regulatory Consultant: Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, economics, engineering, finance, geoscience, mathematics or related quantitative field AND 2 years relevant experience (or) Associate's degree AND 6 years relevant experience (or) High School diploma/GED AND 8 years relevant experience.
- Regulatory Consultant Senior: Bachelor's degree AND 4 years relevant experience (or) Associate's degree AND 8 years relevant experience (or) High School diploma/GED AND 10 years relevant experience.
- Regulatory Consultant Principal: Bachelor's degree AND 6 years relevant experience (or) Associate's degree AND 10 years relevant experience (or) High School diploma/GED AND 12 years relevant experience.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills, including articulating strategy and providing guidance to management and witnesses.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, and vacations as required by filing deadlines.
- Occasional travel may be required for witness preparation and hearings.
