Senior Tax Accountant – Columbus, OH

Our client is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join their team in Columbus, OH. In this role, you’ll take the lead on complex tax compliance and consulting engagements, serving as a technical resource for the team. You’ll guide and mentor Staff on foundational projects and frequently serve as the first-level reviewer on tax engagements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and eager to build strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities- Applies strong technical tax accounting knowledge of partnerships, corporations, s‑corporations on consulting and compliance engagements.
- Accurately prepares complex S‑Corporation, C‑Corporation, partnership, multistate and individual tax returns.
- Prepares and reviews income tax projections and estimates calculations for clients.
- Performs research and writes technical memorandum in a readable format.
- Researches and prepares work papers for various book‑to‑tax differences.
- Maintains open communication with engagement management regarding the progress of completion on projects.
- Manages time effectively by completing projects within communicated budget/deadlines.
- Develops effective working relationships with clients and firm associates.
- Efficiently reviews tax returns from Staff as a first reviewer.
- Can identify potential tax issues during planning of engagement.
- Confidently responds to federal and state notices. Delivers highest level of customer service to clients.
- Streamlines procedures and offers recommendations on how the tax filing process can run more efficiently.
- Actively participates in training and developmental opportunities.
- Supports Staff and Interns in professional development.
- Overtime is required during tax season (January through April) and around other tax deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant tax experience
- Recent experience working in public accounting
- Advanced understanding of GAAP and financial statements
- Experience preparing Corporate, S‑Corporation, and/or Partnership tax returns
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational abilities
- Proficiency with tax software and accounting technologies
- 3–5 years of experience in federal tax compliance and/or consulting within public accounting
- CPA license or actively pursuing CPA certification
- Experience with CCH Axcess, CCH Fixed Assets, Case Ware Working Papers, and Sure Prep
- Familiarity with tax planning strategies and multi‑state taxation
