Position: Assistant Manager I

Assistant Manager I – Family Dollar, Columbus, MS

Responsibilities
  • Assist with store functions and day‑to‑day store activities.
  • Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns.
  • Organize and transfer merchandise from delivery truck to stockroom and sales floor; maintain seasonal areas.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures.
  • Process corporate directives including Pull and Hold/Destroy, Task Compliance, Key Survey info requests, and other communications related to store activities.
  • Maintain promotional effectiveness of store‑front fixtures and displays.
  • Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, and record keeping (including payroll, scheduling, cash register deposits and receipts).
  • Maintain areas of the store to company standards; keep sales floor well‑stocked and stockroom organized.
  • Protect and secure all company assets, including store cash.
  • Ensure all store associates follow safety guidelines and company policies.
  • Help the Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates.
  • Maintain a positive, safe and respectful environment while interacting professionally with customers, associates and leaders.
  • Ensure the store remains clean and presentable: restock bathrooms, sweep and mop floors, take out trash.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives required.
  • Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store preferred.
  • Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs from floor to above shoulder height; meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills required.
  • Ability to work in a high‑energy, team environment required.
  • Exceptional customer service, organizational, and communication skills required.
  • Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills required.
