Position Summary:

Machinist will work in the Machine Shop, set up and operate Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Production equipment as well as manual shop equipment (milling machines and lathes). This employee will work with minimum supervision fabricating.

Skill Bridge Eligibility:

• Active-duty service member within 180 days of separation.
• Written Commander (O-4 or above) authorization.
• Must have current work authorization for U.S. positions.

Your working environment:

Mobile, AL

U.S. Assembly Facility — On "Airbus Way" you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. The facility strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry and is part of Airbus’ strategy to enhance its global competitiveness by meeting the growing needs of its customers in the United States and beyond.

Kinson, NC

The Airbus Aerosystems Kinston facility sits at the forefront of aerospace manufacturing, specializing in the production of large, advanced composite aerostructures. Our team builds critical components for the state-of-the-art Airbus A350 XWB, including the composite center fuselage and wing spar.

Columbus, MS

On the eastern border of Mississippi you’ll find Columbus, home to our Helicopter manufacturing and assembly lines and Center of Excellence for the entire North America region. It’s here that we produce the UH-72A Lakota Helicopters for the U.S. Army in addition to the H-125 aircraft for civil and commercial customers.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Manufacturing Parts: 45%
• Perform all aspects of machining to include setup and operation of equipment such as 3-axis and 5-axis CNC mills, lathes, routers, lasers as well as manual milling machine and manual experience programming using Catia or better. Ability to read and write G-code using CAM software as the machine controller. Produce quality products in a timely manner using specifications and documents in conjunction with written work.
• Maintain a demanding level of quality working on Aerospace materials such as aluminum, titanium stainless steel, and other materials.
• Be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and written work plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T). Uses ISO compliant documentation and/or processes to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished workpiece, sequence of operations and setup. Use of various measuring techniques to validate conformance to requirements.
• Knowledge of tooling, tool setting and offsetting, setting work offsets, and basic inspections. Starts and observes machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls. Verifies conformance of finished first article workpiece to specifications and conducts subsequent inspection of workpiece in accordance with the machine shop’s SPC. Use of hand deburr tools. Confers with lead person, machine shop supervisor or others to resolve machining.
