Columbus, MS – Salary Range: $53,125.00 – $84,995.00.
Job OverviewThis position provides a full range of personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at assigned installations. The counselor delivers one‑on‑one counseling, briefings, presentations, and referrals, working closely with installation and branch Points of Contact to ensure program relevance and compliance.
Responsibilities- Provides personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and their families.
- Assists service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences.
- Develops and distributes informational financial materials to service members and families.
- Coordinates, publicizes, and conducts Personal Financial Management classes/workshops on topics across the military lifecycle, including arrival at first duty station, pre‑ and post‑deployment, and career events outlined in DoDI 1322.34.
- Responds to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
- Utilizes virtual counseling or other electronic communication modes (web‑based secure chat, video‑conferencing) as authorized by the OSD FINRED Program Office.
- Manages duty‑to‑warn situations according to Department of Defense protocol.
- Communicates with leadership and participates in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information on trends and issues at assigned installations.
- Participates in regular in‑services, training, quality improvement committees, or other contract activities as assigned.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree required; an associate degree plus 4 years of experience, or high school diploma plus 6 years of experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of financial counseling experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and speak fluent English.
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish if required by the contract.
- Must obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
- Must pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
- Must hold one of the following certifications:
Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
