Staff Accountant A. Job Responsibilities
The Staff Accountant supports Gregory Construction’s accounting and finance operations by performing day-to-day accounting activities with accuracy, timeliness, and integrity. This role is focused on execution, documentation, and compliance, ensuring that financial records are complete and reliable to support operational and leadership decision-making.
The Staff Accountant works closely with senior accounting staff and other departments to maintain accurate financial data in a fast-paced heavy civil construction environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform general accounting functions, including journal entries, account analysis, and general ledger maintenance
- Prepare and assist with monthly balance sheet reconciliations under the direction of senior accounting staff
- Assist with month‑end and year‑end close processes
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities through data preparation and reporting
- Prepare financial schedules and internal reports as requested
- Assist with job cost reporting and analysis for construction projects
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
- Ensure transactions are recorded in compliance with company policies and accounting standards
- Assist with audits by preparing schedules and responding to information requests
- Collaborate with Human Resources and other departments as needed to support payroll, benefits, and cost tracking
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and assist in implementing best practices
- Perform additional accounting and administrative responsibilities as assigned

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- 3-5 years of accounting experience preferred
- Experience in construction accounting or job cost accounting is a plus
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Foundation or similar construction accounting systems preferred
- Strong attention to detail with solid analytical skills
- Ability to work effectively in a deadline‑driven environment
