Senior Embedded Software Engineer

LER Tech Force is an industry leader in embedded controls, software, functional safety, and engineering, with over 20 years of experience working with customers across North America. This product‑focused position seeks a skilled Senior Embedded Software Engineer experienced in Linux‑based embedded platforms, custom Linux image creation (Yocto, Buildroot, OpenWRT), CI/CD pipeline management, and open‑source software integration. The role involves designing, developing, troubleshooting, and maintaining firmware on Linux embedded platforms, and requires strong C++ and Python skills, firmware troubleshooting expertise, release management, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional environment.

Remote (US only). Must be available on‑site in Columbus, Indiana one full week each month or two full weeks every other month.

• Design firmware solutions and provide time estimations for development efforts.
• Create and maintain customized Linux images for embedded platforms.
• Integrate, manage, and maintain open‑source software.
• Work on repository branches and integration to ensure smooth and efficient code integration.
• Maintain and manage CI/CD build/release pipelines.
• Conduct hands‑on troubleshooting and testing of firmware on bench and in the field to ensure functionality and performance.
• Develop and maintain firmware on Linux embedded platforms, ensuring high performance and reliability.
• Develop and maintain core system functionalities including:
  • Non‑volatile databases and data storage.
  • Inter‑process communication mechanisms.
  • System startup.
  • Log system.
• Integrate and maintain static analysis tools.

• College, university, or equivalent BA or BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience as Firmware Development Engineer.
• Experience creating and managing Embedded Linux platforms (Yocto, Buildroot, OpenWRT).
• Solid experience as Firmware Developer on Linux Embedded platforms.
• Hands‑on experience troubleshooting firmware for embedded systems.
• Experience with CI/CD build/release pipelines (Azure Dev Ops, Jenkins, etc.).
• Experience managing repository branches and integration work.
• Experience integrating and managing open‑source software.
• Experience with C++ programming language.
• Experience with firmware release management.
• Experience with Python programming language.
• Experience with non‑volatile databases/data storage for embedded systems.
• Exposure to firmware projects that follow cybersecurity requirements.
• Highly organized professional, able to deal with multiple subjects in a fast‑paced environment.
