Position Summary:

Med Surg RN in a step-down unit provides transitional care for patients who need more intensive monitoring and support than a general med-surg floor but are not quite ready for the ICU. Patients on this unit could include respiratory failure with BiPAP, sepsis management, severe electrolyte inbalances, post-surgery management of thoracotomies/VATS, wedge resections, vascular procedures and other surgeries

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Continually assess patient vital signs, monitor for changes in condition, and promptly report any concerning findings.
• Administer prescribed medications, including intravenous medications and treatments, according to hospital policy and standards of care.
• Manage intravenous lines, monitor fluid balance, and adjust IV infusions as needed.
• Manage and monitor patient equipment, including ventilators, oxygen therapy equipment, and other devices
• Assist with patient mobility, repositioning, and personal hygiene.
• Accurately and comprehensively document patient assessments, medications administered, interventions performed, and patient outcomes.
• Collaborate with physicians, other nurses, and healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Educate patients and families about their condition, treatment plan, and post-discharge care.

Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.)

• Associate of Nursing (ASN) or equivalent required;
  Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Indiana Registered Nurse License or Multi-State Registered Nurse License through the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) required.
