Overview

Stryten Energy manufactures proprietary and custom injection molding products serving the industrial lead battery, automotive and consumer markets. Stryten Energy is expanding battery poly manufacturing and recycling output to help solve industry-wide supply constraints.

The Mold Machinist is a key contributor who performs duties related to maintenance and upkeep of injection mold tooling, machinery, and related equipment. This includes repair of industrial tooling for plastic injection machines, manual machining operations utilizing typical toolroom equipment, analyzing operational problems, testing equipment, correcting issues, and providing input and suggestions regarding tooling and molding issues to keep production flowing.

Opening on 1st shift (Monday - Friday; 7am - 3pm) and 3rd shift (Sunday - Thursday; 11pm - 7am)

Pay rate: $30.60/hour, plus a $1.00/hour shift differential for 3rd shift

Responsibilities
  • Perform duties related to maintenance and upkeep of tooling and related plastic injection molding equipment.
  • Move injection molds around the facility as required by the toolroom and production departments.
  • Disassemble injection molds, clean, changeover components, and reassemble the mold when completed.
  • Electrical checks of mold heaters and thermocouples.
  • Water pressure checks for molding circuits.
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues in the production area and in the tooling room; recommend and implement solutions to fix problems.
  • Operate equipment including manual lathes, mills, surface grinders, drill presses, hand tools, and other related equipment to repair existing or fabricate new components.
  • Manage time effectively and meet deadlines; work with a sense of urgency when presses or lines are down.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures including use of PPE and safety equipment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement, 5S, and other lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and organization of equipment, tools, and supplies to keep workstations efficient.
  • Communicate with process engineering to improve molding through tooling improvements and processing; diagnose and troubleshoot tooling problems and help implement corrections with other facilities.
  • Complete required hazardous waste training and comply with Stryten hazardous waste procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as needed to complete work in process and communicate with other shifts.
  • Work within established policies, procedures, practices, and regulations; attend required trainings and meetings.
  • Embrace and follow Stryten Energy core beliefs and values; wear required PPE and follow safety rules.
  • Safety is a priority; address unsafe conditions immediately to keep team members safe and equipment operational.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned to meet business needs.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • Apprenticeship Training certificate preferred but not required.
  • Manual Machinist skills:
    Lathe, Bridgeport mill, surface grinder, and typical manual toolroom operation strongly preferred.
  • Injection mold tooling experience preferred but not required; understanding of machining principles and practices and fundamental understanding of injection molding is strongly preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of mold construction and mold maintenance principles a plus; high mechanical aptitude; welding (TIG/MIG) experience a plus.
  • Good communication and documentation skills; ability to work well with others.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair molds as needed; must complete Lock Out/Tag Out training.
  • Proven satisfactory work history (attendance and performance) with attendance being critical to this position.
Physical Demands & Environment
  • This position is on-site at our Columbus, IN plant.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, bending, and reaching.
