General Manager – Columbus Rocks Climbing & Fitness

The primary goal of Columbus Rocks is to provide our clients and customers with a fun and engaging environment that is clean and most importantly safe. In turn, we have a deep passion for outdoor climbing and as such believe that indoor climbing is designed to be a transition to outdoor climbing.

The General Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the facility, operations, and programming at Columbus Rocks. The GM oversees the management team; facilitates, supports, and helps train employees at the gym; and is responsible for route setting and running the route setting team on a weekly basis. The GM is also responsible for the continued growth, development, and implementation of systems, business development, programming, and safety at the facility.

It is with the utmost importance that the GM establishes and maintains a culture of safety, respect, learning, and collaboration among the gyms’ staff and community.

Management/Employee Facilitation
  • Lead the management team cohesively with the shared goal of running the highest-quality climbing facility.
  • Drive continued development of new and engaging programming.
  • Schedule management and employee schedules utilizing organized, economical and efficient staffing systems.
  • Nurture staff motivation and job satisfaction via dynamic leadership.
  • Maintain accountability and professionalism among staff, while participating in assessment and evaluation for all staff members.
  • Support professional development among staff.
  • Work closely with Ownership to ensure quality, consistency, and unity across all facilities.
Customer Experience
  • Ensure exceptional customer experience across all operations.
  • Collaborate with all staff to ensure an exceptional experience for all clients and guests.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to build relationships with community contacts and companies for events and opportunities.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive community and a sense of place/belonging within Columbus Rocks.
Operations
  • Develop and maintain clean, organized, and efficient operating systems.
  • Ensure that the facility, IT, and equipment is clean, functional, and meets industry standards.
  • Oversee all aspects of operations, events, instruction, and programs.
  • Provide high quality boulder/top rope/lead sets while also facilitating a setting team to support the communities experience on the wall of the facility.
  • Manage Columbus Rocks Budget and satisfy ongoing reporting requirements.
  • Facilitate efficient Front Desk Operations, instruction, and overall experience at Columbus Rocks.
Risk Management
  • Serve as head of Risk Management development and implementation within the facility.
  • Oversee incident reporting/reviews, safety reviews, inspections, emergency scenarios, and policy writing.
  • Act as Incident Site Commander in an emergency. Ensure all operations, programs, and events have sufficient emergency support based on Standard Operating Procedures.

Desired Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year of Assistant GM or GM experience is preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Boulder/Rope setting experience is preferred
  • Experience managing people in a retail environment is preferred
  • Possess critical thinking and creative problem solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
