HSE Safety Engineer - Battery —
LER Tech Force is seeking a skilled HSE Safety Engineer to support two major initiatives. First, program support for a battery program which includes manufacturing cell design reviews and identifying health, safety, and environmental concerns through product design reviews and chemical component review and analysis. Second, this role would provide HSE support for EV manufacturing sites globally. Strong organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential.

JOB LOCATION:
Columbus, IN, limited regional travel may be required in Ohio and Michigan.
Provide program support for the Battery Program, including:
- Participate in manufacturing cell design reviews.
- Identify health and safety concerns related to manufacturability during product design reviews.
- Conduct chemical component reviews and analysis.
- Perform risk identification and assessment, including Process Hazard Assessments (PHA).
- Develop and recommend corrective or preventive actions.
- Support regional travel requirements (Ohio and Michigan).
Deliver global HSE support for battery programs, including:
- Assist with policy review and compliance.
- Conduct PHAs for manufacturing sites globally.
- Oversee program stewardship for safety initiatives (e.g., ANVL, LOTO).
- Facilitate information transfer for new battery line startups in foreign markets.
- Contribute to the development of engineering design standards for battery-related processes.
- Actively demonstrates safety awareness and promotes a positive health, safety and environmental culture. Ensures employees are consulted and given the opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures.
- Works cross-functionally, providing technical expertise, to improve hazard prevention and risk control measures, non-conformities, corrective and preventive actions, driving continual improvement within the site(s).
- Contributes to daily health, safety and environmental operations within the site(s) providing support to solve technical issues. Leads hazard identification, environmental aspect identification and risk assessment programs to identify risk improvement opportunities and gaps in health, safety and environmental compliance obligations. Meets targets and objectives for the design, implementation and maintenance of complex hazard prevention and control systems to reduce or eliminate potential risk.
- Leads multiple projects from inception to completion; facilitates project planning sessions with internal stakeholders to determine the scope and objectives of each project; works with business stakeholders to establish project performance goals; designs project plan, develops timeline, identifies project milestones, and tracks performance against performance goals and timeline.
- Identifies, tracks, and works with others to resolve project issues.
- Monitors and communicates project status to project team.
- Manages project risk; uses quality tools to identify areas of risk; works with others on the team and outside the team to identify alternatives or solutions.
- Documents and shares team learnings with other teams; draws on other project team experiences to enhance the success of the project.
- Collaborates with product safety team to share knowledge on new product.
Essential
- College, university, or equivalent BA or BS degree in related field.
- Experience relevant to lithium ion battery manufacturing and design.
- Manufacturing engineering experience.
