Position Summary:
As a Field Engineer II, you will play a key role in supporting the design, construction, and maintenance of Bartholomew County REMC's overhead and underground electrical distribution systems. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Design and engineer single-phase and multi-phase electric distribution facilities, including more complex projects.
- Create, edit, and review electronic staking sheets to ensure compliance with Cooperative specifications and policies.
- Oversee all aspects of assigned work plan projects, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Serve as liaison between members and the Cooperative for work plan items.
- Calculate and deliver accurate construction cost estimates and revenue projections.
- Prepare and file easements as required.
- Develop subdivision layouts and estimates; oversee subdivision projects and related contracts.
- Coordinate with local, county, and state agencies and outside consultants to minimize service interruptions and ensure safety.
- Attend monthly utility coordination meetings.
- Approve field change orders for Cooperative and contractor crews.
- Update mapping systems using NISC staking products.
- Provide backup support for Key Accounts and economic development initiatives.
- Conduct system inspections, including pole-line condition, asset inventory, GPS data collection, pole tagging, joint-use contacts, and right-of-way assessments.
- Manage large-scale joint-use assessments and make-ready projects.
- Inspect special equipment and oversee required testing.
- Perform work order audits and verify as-built inspections.
- Participate in outage investigations.
- Mentor Field Engineer I and assist with member issues.
- Act as dispatcher during major storms and serve as on-call supervisor in rotation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Minimum Two Year Associates Degree
- Preferred minimum of five to eight years’ experience in Field Engineering on an electric distribution system.
- Must be able to apply engineering theory to the design of electric distribution lines.
- Must have successfully completed staking certification course.
- Must be knowledgeable with NEC, NESC, and local electrical codes.
- Experience with GPS, field staking software and ESRI.
- Must be able to understand GIS, mapping terminology and surveying concepts.
- Must be able to interpret system maps, engineering drawings and staking sheets.
- Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn other software programs, as needed.
- Must demonstrate ability to learn and apply basic computer, technical and mathematical skills.
- Must be able to operate, maintain and safeguard expensive engineering tools and field equipment such as Ipad, GPS unit, transit, laser range finder, and range poles.
