Job Summary

The Dispatcher is skilled emergency service work that involves receiving emergency and non‑emergency requests for law enforcement related assistance. The Dispatcher must quickly determine the nature of the call for service and prioritize each call appropriately. This position requires an enormous degree of independent judgment within procedural boundaries to provide a timely, efficient and effective communications between the public and officers in the field.

Must exhibited empathy and understanding with people who are emotional, disturbed, or abusive when calling in a request for service. In addition to receiving calls from the public, Dispatchers must monitor two‑way radio traffic and remain in constant contact with officers in the field. The communications center is equipped with security systems such as fire and closed circuit surveillance systems that require attentiveness in the monitoring and response to such alarms.

The Dispatcher will also need to have specific training and certification in NCIC and GCIC networks. The certification will be renewed as prescribed by law, and remain current as a condition of employment. Dispatchers are in a law enforcement sensitive position, and a high level of trust and integrity is expected with the position. The Dispatcher may be required to work beyond a normal shift during emergencies, special events or as needed to fulfill mission of the agency.

Responsibilities
  • Receives emergency and non‑emergency calls for service.
  • Dispatches requests for service to field units.
  • Maintains records of shift activity.
  • Responds to field units requests for information.
  • Monitors alarms and surveillance systems.
  • Provides directions and assistance for responding emergency support units and the public.
  • Confirms warrants and GCIC, NCIC entries.
  • Broadcasts alert messages sent by allied law enforcement agencies.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or Georgia State accredited GED certificate required.
  • Typing speed of 40 words per minute required.
  • Completion of Georgia POST Dispatcher certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • No felony convictions or crimes of moral turpitude.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates Degree or higher preferred.
  • Knowledge of Federal Communication's Rules and Regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of NCIC and GCIC Rules and Regulations preferred.
Proposed Salary

The proposed annualized salary for this position is $42,835 and includes full benefits.
