Construction Materials Testing Technician III
Pay$25/hr
General ResponsibilitiesPerform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g., soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel). Communicate with the Project Manager, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor representatives, and other stakeholders regarding construction site activities, project requirements, and testing and inspection results.
Transport material samples with proper identification and documentation to the laboratory for further testing and analysis. Accurately tabulate, prepare, and submit written and digital reports as work is performed for daily review by the Project Manager. Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
May assist with scheduling and dispatching technicians to project sites. Adhere to strict safety and quality standards at all times.
EssentialRoles And Responsibilities
- Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed, in accordance with training and specified procedures.
- Provide clear, accurate documentation of findings and results.
- Perform basic data analysis to verify accuracy prior to communication and submission to the Project Manager.
- Communicate information to the Project Manager and other personnel as directed.
- Demonstrate proficiency in multiple areas of field and/or laboratory testing and inspection.
- Train and mentor junior-level technicians as needed.
- Lead laboratory activities or support larger field projects when assigned.
- Maintain equipment and ensure calibration requirements are met.
- Operate company vehicles (e.g., pickup trucks or equivalent).
- Follow all safety rules, practices, and project-specific requirements.
- Perform pre-task planning prior to executing work.
- Report safety concerns or incidents to management promptly.
- Maintain quality standards on all assigned projects.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and related experience.
- Proficiency with laptop computers and Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Certifications in two or more of the following areas:
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
- NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist).
- ICC certification in two or more of the following categories:
Reinforced Concrete, Spray-Applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding. - American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
- ASNT Level II certification in multiple nondestructive testing methods, such as Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
- Other national, regional, state, or local materials-related certifications requiring experience and written examination may be considered if deemed appropriate by the Department Manager.
- ACI certification in one or more of the following areas:
- Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
- Concrete Strength Testing Technician
- Certification in Radiation Safety and Nuclear Density Gauge Operation.
- American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or
- ASNT Level II certification for Structural Steel and/or nondestructive testing services.
