Position SummaryUnder general supervision, the Dental Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to the dentist and dental team. This position assists during dental procedures, maintains infection control and equipment readiness, supports patient comfort and safety, and ensures the clinic runs efficiently in accordance with Valley Healthcare System, Inc. standards and regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities- Prepare patients for treatment by reviewing medical histories, positioning them for procedures, and ensuring comfort and reassurance throughout the visit.
- Assist the dentist chair-side during examinations and procedures by anticipating needs, handling instruments, suctioning, and maintaining a clear operating field.
- Prepare, mix, and handle dental materials such as fillings, cements, and impression compounds as directed.
- Take, develop, and mount dental radiographs (X-rays) following safety and quality protocols.
- Record treatment information, chart findings, and update patient dental records accurately and confidentially.
- Provide postoperative instructions and communicate patient care directions as directed by the dentist.
- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments, equipment, and operatories in compliance with infection control standards.
- Perform basic maintenance and lubrication of dental equipment to ensure proper function and minimize repairs.
- Maintain appropriate inventory of dental supplies and report reorder needs promptly.
- Coordinate patient follow-up appointments and support front office communication regarding scheduling and records.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of patient health information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support the Dental Director and Chief Medical Officer with required documentation, reports, and special projects.
- Participate in team meetings, safety reviews, and training to ensure continuous quality improvement and compliance.

- Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent. - Certification:
Graduate of an accredited dental assisting program with current Dental Assistant certification. - Experience:
A minimum of 6 months to 1 year of experience in a dental clinic setting is preferred; new graduates with certification are encouraged to apply. - Other Requirements: CPR certification, knowledge of electronic dental records, and HIPAA compliance are required.

- Adhere to HIPAA Privacy & Security regulations and Valley Healthcare System’s confidentiality policies
- Maintain the confidentiality of all patient records (oral, written, electronic)
- Comply with all Federal, State, and Local medical service requirements and internal policies
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting; occasional lifting of items >50 lbs
- Normal range of motion, vision, and hearing required
- Must be able to assist or lift patients as necessary
- Regular exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, radiation, and clinical cleaning agents
- Work may require irregular hours and involves exposure to bodily fluids (position is considered at-risk for occupational exposure)
