Traveling Construction Materials Technician II
Terracon, Full‑time, Entry Level
Join our Traveling Construction Materials Technician team and develop professionally while working on high‑profile projects across the Gulf Coast region (Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia). The role requires 100% travel and offers the opportunity to engage with diverse construction sites, including transportation, commercial buildings, and wind farms.
Responsibilities• Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel).
• Communicate with project managers, engineers, client representatives, and contractors regarding site conditions, project requirements, and test results.
• Transport material samples and associated documentation to the laboratory for analysis.
• Tabulate, prepare, and submit data in written and digital reports for daily transmittal.
• Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
• Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites.
• Adhere to strict safety standards and conduct pre‑task planning.
• Maintain quality standards and follow all safety rules and practices.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of materials testing experience.
• Proficiency with laptop computer, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable violation history.
• Ability to drive a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
- ACI certification in one or more of the following areas:
- Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
- Concrete Strength Testing Technician
- Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
- NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist).
- ICC certification in one or more of the following categories:
Reinforced Concrete, Spray‑applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post‑Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding. - AWS Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
- ASNT Level II certification in Visual Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Dye Penetrant Testing, Radiographic Testing, Ultrasonic Testing.
- Other national, regional, state, or local materials‑related certifications, if applicable.
Base range: $19.50–$27.50 per hour (subject to adjustment based on location, qualifications, and experience).
