Chiller Operator​/Data Center Mechanical Technician

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Chiller Operator / Mechanical Technician to support mission-critical cooling infrastructure in a high-availability data center environment. This role is responsible for the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of chilled water systems and associated mechanical equipment supporting redundant (N+1 / 2N) configurations.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with industrial chillers, closed-loop cooling systems, pumps, heat exchangers, and control systems, and understands the reliability standards required in Tier III / Tier IV-style facilities.

• Operate, start up, shut down, and monitor water-cooled and air-cooled chillers
• Cooling towers / dry coolers
• Primary and secondary pumping systems
• CDUs (Coolant Distribution Units) where applicable
• Maintain optimal system performance under continuous load conditions
• Monitor chilled water temperatures, flow rates, pressures, and system deltas
• Ensure systems operate within design parameters to support 24/7 uptime
• Operate and maintain N+1 and 2N redundant configurations
• Execute controlled failover procedures and load transfers
• Participate in redundancy testing and integrated systems testing (IST)
• Support preventative maintenance without compromising availability

• Maintain and troubleshoot closed-loop chilled water systems
• Manage expansion tanks, air separators, and loop pressurization
• Monitor water chemistry and filtration systems
• Identify and resolve flow imbalance, air entrapment, and pressure drop issues

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on: diagnose mechanical and controls issues
• Coordinate with OEM service providers as needed
• Maintain detailed logs and maintenance documentation

• Utilize BMS / BAS / SCADA systems for monitoring
• Respond to alerts and alarms in real time
• Assist with system optimization to improve efficiency and PUE

• Follow all safety protocols and lockout/tagout procedures
• Maintain OSHA and environmental compliance standards
• Support audits and inspections related to mechanical systems

• 5+ years of experience operating and maintaining industrial or data center cooling systems
• Experience with major chiller manufacturers (e.g., Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin)
• Strong understanding of: pressure and flow calculations
• Experience in mission-critical environments preferred
• Ability to read P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics

• High-density AI / HPC cooling environments
• Commissioning support and load bank testing
• Tier III or Tier IV data center operations
