Job Responsibilities
- Handles appeals under the administrative procedures act and manages the department's response.
- Assists outside counsel in defense of civil lawsuits, including investigation and case preparation.
- Provides legal guidance to agency employees, attorneys, court officials and other agencies in the interpretation of state and federal laws and agency policies and procedures.
- Assists General Counsel's Office with agency orientation and legal training.
- Practice areas for the General Counsel's Office include constitutional law, litigation, contracts, employment law, appeals and administrative law.

- Public Service Loan Forgiveness.
- Paid Parental Leave.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
- A juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school.
- Membership in the South Carolina bar and completion of rule 403 requirements within six (6) months of employment.
