Job Description

We are looking for a qualified Full‑time Laboratory Technician or Veterinary Technician to undertake a variety of laboratory procedures in a clinical setting. You will be handling sensitive equipment to analyze animal samples and/or substances.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with animal samples, will be well‑trained to maintain safety conditions, and will be passionate about work that moves things forward. The goal is to optimize lab procedures and succeed in producing reliable and important results.

Duties Include
  • Process blood samples including the ability to read a manual differential
  • Perform and interrupt urinalysis
  • Perform and interrupt fecal flotations
  • Log and distribute incoming samples and materials
  • Follow established procedures and regulations
  • Notify proper personnel when a known specimen is out of compliance, and send all production results to the QC department
  • Document activities legibly in notebook(s) before summarizing them on lab report sheets
  • Calibrate/standardize instruments when and where needed
  • Maintain a clean, uncluttered work area
  • Attend all required safety training and follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned
Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a Lab Technician or relevant position, preferably with animal sample experience
  • Experience operating electrical and non‑electrical laboratory equipment
  • Ability to read manual differentials, perform urinalysis, handle microbiology, and detect intestinal parasites – REQUIRED
  • Excellent physical condition and endurance
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and database systems
  • Ability to work autonomously and under pressure
  • Degree in animal science, biology, chemistry, or a related field – Preferred
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Maintain and foster interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers

Schedule: Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend shifts (Saturday and Sunday). Shift times vary and may include mornings or evenings.

Job Type: Full‑time

Compensation: Starting at $18 per hour or higher, depending on experience. Pay increases are available based on demonstrated skills and proficiency within the laboratory.

Special Working Conditions
  • Ability to sit or stand and work at a computer for long periods of time.
  • Client needs and work volume may occasionally require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties. This position may require special working hours, including weekends, evenings, and/or holidays.
  • Must have mental capacity and processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking English) to perform duties proficiently.
  • Job requires sufficient ambulatory skills to perform duties while working.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand‑eye coordination, arm‑hand‑finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment as required.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Teammates may be exposed to biological or zoonotic hazards.
