PURPOSE

This position is responsible for keeping his/her assigned area(s) or building(s) clean, safe, functional and secure in accordance with prescribed and established district policies and standards. The custodian substitute must maintain all assigned areas in a state of operational excellence so that they present no interruptions, distractions or obstacles to the educational program. Must commit to 3 days per week, Flexible evening hours only (ranges from 4:00PM-12:30AM)

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Performs regular custodial duties in assigned area(s) or building(s).
  • Projects a positive image of the school district with his/her team whenever the public, guests or visitors are in the building.
  • Accepts and follows verbal or written instructions from the head custodian/supervisor.
  • Provides services as directed to support curricular and extracurricular events and activities.
  • Maintains inventory of custodial/maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Re-stocks disposable custodial/maintenance items and provides the head custodian/supervisor with inventory usage data.
  • Cleans and preserves the designated spaces, equipment, furniture, etc. in the building.
  • Maintains building security by opening and closing the building each school day and during special events as directed.
  • Is available for emergency clean up or maintenance of the building(s) or area(s) outside of the regular work hours.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

Reports To:

Assistant Director of FCS, Building administrator(s), Head and/or Lead Custodian

Supervises:
None

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions related to work assignments;
Knowledge of the safe use of supplies and equipment;
Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, building cleaning and maintenance procedures;
Ability to maintain a cooperative and positive relationship with other people.

Preferred:
High School diploma

Ideal candidate will have a professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast-paced environment.
