Senior Applications Engineer w​/Poly

Overview

Big Bear.ai is seeking a Senior Application Engineer to design, develop, and support high‑value applications for multiple teams. In this role, you will ensure seamless performance, security, and scalability of applications while contributing to mission‑critical projects. You will also lead and mentor team members, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality software solutions.

• Design software tools and subsystems to support software reuse and domain analyses, and manage their implementation.
• Oversee software development and support using formal specifications, data flow diagrams, and other accepted design techniques, including Computer‑Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools.
• Estimate software development costs and schedules to ensure timely delivery.
• Review existing programs and recommend refinements to improve performance, reduce operating time, and enhance techniques.
• Formulate and define specifications for new software applications or modify and maintain existing applications using engineering releases and utilities.
• Lead program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation efforts.
• Provide guidance, direction, and quality assurance reviews for other team members.
• Evaluate existing and new software products to ensure quality and alignment with mission objectives.

• Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma/GED with 10+ years of experience.
  • Associate’s Degree with 8+ years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 6+ years of experience.
  • Master’s Degree with 4+ years of experience.
  • Doctorate’s Degree with 2+ years of experience.
• Clearance: TS/SCI with Polygraph (required).

  • Proficiency in Type Script, JavaScript, and Python.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and processes.
  • Expertise in creating, managing, and deploying container technologies.

• Experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
• Proficiency in Linux environments (CentOS 7, Red Hat
  8).
• Familiarity with frameworks and databases such as Flask, Django, Maria
  
  DB, and Mongo
  
  DB.
• Experience with tools like Jira and Confluence.
• Knowledge of technologies such as NiFi, Angular, and Terraform.
• Expertise in container orchestration and deployment tools, including Kubernetes and Docker.
• Familiarity with JSON, Ansible, and infrastructure automation.
• Experience with big data tools such as PIG and PySpark.
