Location: Columbia, MD
Compensation Range: $163,000 – $193,000 (annualized USD)
Clearance Required: Must be a U.S. citizen with an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph

Description

We are seeking a senior Software Engineer (SWE3) focused on building AI-assisted developer tooling that materially improves productivity, code quality, and the overall developer experience  this role, you will lead the design and implementation of advanced development tools, including AI-powered IDE capabilities and automated workflows that support modern software development.

You will work at the intersection of software engineering, AI, and developer experience—experimenting with agentic and autonomous systems to enhance tasks such as code review, test generation, and quality analysis. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy technical ownership, mentoring others, and turning experimental ideas into durable, production-ready tooling.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and evolve AI-assisted IDE and developer tooling capabilities.
  • Lead integration of agent-based systems that automate repetitive development tasks such as code reviews, unit test generation, and code quality enforcement.
  • Experiment with autonomous or semi-autonomous agents to improve software development workflows.
  • Integrate new tools and capabilities into existing development platforms, pipelines, and ecosystems.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and stakeholders to gather feedback and iterate on solutions.
  • Define metrics to measure tooling effectiveness and developer productivity gains.
  • Document design decisions, usage patterns, and best practices to support adoption and scalability.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less-experienced engineers when appropriate.
Skills Requirements
  • Strong software engineering expertise in one or more modern programming languages.
  • Significant experience with IDEs, developer tools, or build and test systems
    .
  • Hands-on experience with AI- or LLM-powered developer tools
    , including chat-based interfaces or automated coding agents.
  • Ability to prototype, evaluate, and mature experimental tooling into production systems.
  • Deep understanding of modern software development workflows and best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and technical judgment.
Nice to Haves
  • Experience with automated code review
    , static analysis, or quality enforcement tools.
  • Knowledge of agentic AI frameworks or orchestration systems.
  • Experience working on developer platforms or internal engineering enablement teams.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops practices.
  • Experience developing VS Code extensions using Type Script and Electron.
  • Track record of improving developer experience at scale.
Education & Experience Requirement
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline and 12+ years of relevant professional experience OR
  • 16+ years of relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree.
Compensation & Employment Policy

Salary is determined by multiple factors, including location, education, experience, technical depth, and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $163,000 – $193,000 (annualized USD).
