Software Engineer, Java Developer, Cloud Engineer - Software

Northstrat is seeking a Java Software Engineer to join our agile development team. The team builds and maintains a state‑of‑the‑art software application that supports the Department of Defense. As an individual contributor, you will participate in a fully agile development process, work with modern tools and technologies, and stay up to date with the latest developments in the field. The work environment is hybrid, with a mix of remote and in‑person work.

• Develop Java based software capabilities.

• Active and current secret clearance.
• At least 5 years of experience in software engineering, modern Java frameworks and libraries (e.g., Spring, Guava) and a bachelor’s degree in a related field; 3 years relevant experience with a master’s; or high school diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
• Experience designing enterprise APIs.
• Experience in RESTful web services.
• Experience in microservices architecture.
• Experience in object‑oriented programming paradigms.
• Experience with the agile software lifecycle.
• Proven ability to learn quickly and work well independently and in a team.
• Experience with Linux operating system.
• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Git, Nexus, Maven).
• DoD 8140 / 8570 compliance certification (e.g Security+).
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment, spending an average of 1–2 days per week at our Columbia, MD office, with flexibility to accommodate schedule changes.

• Current TS/SCI clearance preferred.
• Experience with NiFi, Kafka, AWS infrastructure, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure).

• Strong scripting experience.
• Prior experience or familiarity with our Big Data Platform.
• Understanding of agile software development methodologies and use of standard software development tool suites (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Git Hub Enterprise).

Flex Time – Northstrat does not mandate specific working hours. A Northstrat employee is required to work an average of 8 hours per weekday over a month, with flexibility for project schedules.
