Base pay range

The Controller supports the CFO in managing the company's accounting operations and ensuring accuracy. This role is pivotal in driving efficient month‑end close, recording transactions, maintaining strong internal controls, and partnering with operational leaders to deliver meaningful financial insights. The Controller also leads accounting staff development and helps advance the company's financial systems and processes to support growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Records & Monthly Close
  • Direct the monthly close process to ensure timeliness, accuracy, and sustainability.
  • Maintain and enhance a comprehensive set of internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Continuously improve accounting processes, leverage technology, and increase efficiency in deliverables.
  • Monitor for potential risks, anomalies, or irregularities, escalating as necessary.
  • Provide financial support and analysis for management, decision-making, and external audits.
Transaction Processing
  • Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes.
  • Drive process improvements and technology adoption to streamline workflows.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and contractual obligations.
  • Foster collaboration with the operations team to ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions.
Reporting & Analysis
  • Collaborate with the CFO on short- and long-term financial planning and performance goals.
  • Partner with Project Executives to provide financial oversight and guidance for their divisions.
  • Prepare and present clear, actionable financial analyses to support strategic decision‑making.
  • Share critical thoughts and ideas to help achieve company goals or efficiencies.
Staff Development & Leadership
  • Oversee the accounting team, including staffing structure, role design, and workload distribution.
  • Mentor and develop staff to strengthen technical skills, business acumen, and leadership potential.
  • Reinforce the company's mission, vision, and values in all interactions, and perform other duties as needed to support organizational goals.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Directly supervises accounting team members.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with P-C's policies and procedures, including interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years working as a Controller/Assistant Controller/Accounting Manager.
  • 2-3 years with a commercial general contractor or in an AEC environment preferred.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, job cost accounting, WIP schedules, and financial reporting.
  • Solid organizational, communication, problem solving, research and follow‑up skills required.
Competencies
  • Proven ability to manage the month‑end close process and maintain robust internal controls.
  • Experience with construction ERP systems (e.g., Sage CRE 300/Timberline) preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/construction software (Timber Scan, Procore).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Compensation
  • Base salary - $100,000-$140,000

WORK ENVIRONMENT, EQUIPMENT, AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Typing and viewing of a computer screen required.
  • Occasional off hours work as needed.
  • Occasional bending, crouching and stooping throughout the day
  • Some light lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required
  • Must be able to calmly and effectively work with high stress situations.
