General Summary of Position
Manages the execution of information systems full‑lifecycle activities for pharmacy and medication‑use projects and initiatives. Completes building tasks for the application. Performs peer‑review and QA of build completed by other Pharmacy IS analysts. Participates as a pharmacy and information systems expert on clinical initiatives. Acts as an IS liaison to entity‑based pharmacy operations, other IS disciplines, and vendors. Through academic and clinical preparation, the Epic Pharmacy Informaticist possesses advanced Information Technology expertise as well as clinical experience and utilizes this expertise to support and promote the delivery of safe, age appropriate and culturally aware patient care through the use of information technology.
PrimaryDuties and Responsibilities
- Contributes to the achievement of divisional/department goals and objectives. Adheres to divisional and departmental policies and information systems standards. Provides business leadership and technical project management during information systems development and implementation efforts. Establishes project scope, time frames, and budgetary requirements; ensures conformance to them. Ensures newly developed/implemented systems comply with the system's functional/system design requirements and with contractual requirements as well as achieving successful user acceptances.
- Manages day‑to‑day project assignments. Monitors and, as necessary, corrects performance of all project participants (including Med Star staff, consultants, and vendors) during the implementation phase of pharmacy, medication management, Epic solutions, and other pharmacy operational initiatives.
- Participates in the development and implementation of strategies to integrate pharmaceutical care activities using information technology.
- Participates in pharmacy services initiatives to evaluate the internal and external markets for business opportunities that maximize appropriate utilization of pharmacy services. Assists with ongoing monitoring and evaluation of programs to assure their value to the organization.
- Prepares and participates in company presentations, in‑services, facilities tours, etc., for internal and external customers and regulatory agencies to promote pharmacy and medication use information system optimization through out the Med Star system.
- Provides expertise and guidance to IS in the management of pharmacy and medication use databases, interfaces, master files, and tables. Provides advanced level support of multi‑user Epic pharmacy based Applications, including system Build, facility‑based formulary management, system configuration, training, maintenance, and support of these systems.
- Represents corporate IS on hospital and system initiative committees to facilitate project completion and where participants will serve to benefit committee goals/outcomes.
- Reviews and verifies credentials and qualifications of consultants, contractors, and vendors. Analyzes and evaluates proposals, including costs, from external parties proposing to do work for Med Star Health Information Systems.
- Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi‑disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
- Functions as the liaison to other clinicians and vendors.
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required.
- Pharm
D preferred.
- Experience:
- 1‑2 years as a pharmacist with progressively more responsibility and complex experience implementing and supporting pharmacy, medication use and/or other clinical information systems required.
- 1‑2 years as informaticist required.
- 1‑2 years of EHR Pharmacy/Orders build experience strongly preferred.
- Licenses and
Certifications:- RPH - Registered Pharmacist in Maryland or DC Upon Hire required.
- EPIC - EPIC Certification required;
Epic certification(s) must be obtained within ninety (90) days from last class completion within 90 Days required.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated outstanding problem‑solving and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to establish strong interpersonal relationships and facilitation skills is a must.
- Demonstrated expertise in both written and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Basic understanding of acute, non‑acute, and ambulatory care pharmacy operations and ability to apply this knowledge in analyzing system and operational requirements.
- Ability to delegate, track, monitor, and provide knowledge transfers.
- Demonstrated successful vendor and customer relationships and project management skills.
