We are seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our private credit platform, specializing in real estate development loans ranging from $3 million to $30 million. This role will focus on originating, underwriting, structuring, and closing bridge, construction, acquisition, and value-add loans across multifamily, industrial, student housing, self-storage, and other commercial real estate asset classes.
As a key member of our investment team, you will conduct rigorous credit and risk analysis, optimize deal structures to achieve strong risk-adjusted returns, and support portfolio management in a dynamic market environment. You will collaborate closely with originators, legal, asset management, and senior leadership, including presenting deals to investment committees.

Key Responsibilities- Lead the underwriting and structuring of real estate development and bridge loans ($3MM–$30MM), including acquisition, refinancing, ground-up construction, and transitional financing across various asset classes (multifamily, industrial, student housing, self-storage, retail, office, hospitality, and alternatives).
- Perform comprehensive financial analysis, including cash flow modeling (pro forma, NPV, IRR), sponsor due diligence, collateral valuation review, rent roll/lease analysis, market studies, and third-party report evaluation (appraisals, environmental, title, etc.).
- Assess borrower/sponsor creditworthiness, experience, and financial strength; identify and mitigate key risks in deal structuring, guarantees, and covenants.
- Prepare detailed credit memos, investment packages, and presentations for internal investment committee approval.
- Negotiate loan terms, covenants, and documentation to balance risk mitigation with competitive market positioning and return objectives.
- Support loan closings by coordinating with legal, title, and closing teams; ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and credit standards.
- Monitor and manage assigned portfolio assets post-closing, including annual reviews, covenant compliance, loan modifications, risk rating updates, and performance reporting.
- Mentor junior underwriters/analysts and contribute to team development through training, deal round tables, and knowledge sharing.
- Stay current on market trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in private real estate credit.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Real Estate, Economics, or related field (advanced degree or relevant certifications a plus).
- 7+ years of progressive experience in commercial real estate underwriting, credit analysis, and portfolio management, with significant focus on bridge, construction, mezzanine, and/or development loans.
- Proven track record of closing and managing complex CRE transactions.
- Deep expertise in financial modeling, cash flow projections, scenario/sensitivity analysis, and structuring across the capital stack (senior debt, mezzanine, preferred/common equity).
- Strong understanding of commercial real estate asset classes, particularly self-storage, multifamily, and industrial.
- Experience presenting to investment committees and negotiating with sponsors, brokers, and stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills; ability to collaborate cross-functionally and mentor team members.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel advanced), financial modeling tools, and CRE underwriting software.
- Self-motivated with a high degree of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with agency, CMBS, or bank CRE lending standards as a foundation for private market adaptability.
