Utility Designer at Pennoni
We are hiring for an experienced CAD Technician to join our team full‑time as a Utility Designer at our office in Columbia, MD. This person will contribute primarily to utility projects by performing critical design and drafting functions, supporting major clients such as BGE and Verizon.
Primary Responsibilities- Perform design / CAD drafting work to assist with engineering projects.
- Assist with obtaining relevant field data and measurements.
- Utilize relevant data when creating or adjusting workable construction blueprints.
- Ensure scheduling and productivity objectives are achieved.
- Perform field work as needed, working indoors and outdoors.
- Additional duties may be assigned as required.
- High School Diploma (or equivalent).
- 3+ years of professional experience in design and/or drafting.
This person may be expected to work in the field as needed and will be required to possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Additionally, this role will require passing a background check and drug test.
Preferred Qualifications- Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering, Design Technology, or a related technical field (recent graduates are encouraged to apply).
- Experience working on dry utility projects (e.g., electrical power distribution).
- Proficiency with engineering/CAD tools, especially AutoCAD; experience with Bentley Micro Station is a plus.
- Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office software applications.
- Proven ability to utilize technical mathematics.
- Proven ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- Proven ability to work in a self‑motivated manner while effectively multi‑tasking and prioritizing multiple assignments.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written); proven active‑listening skills is a plus.
Target pay range: $23 - $30 per hour.
